Soul for This

Originally a university assignment, I continued to develop the story further.

Dollen is a typical overachieving teen—A’s in every subject, perfect records, a valedictorian in every way. He lives his whole life by the book. One day in class, a topic of college and university majors is brought up. It’s normal; they’re high school seniors, after all. However, when it’s Dollen’s turn, his mind seems to draw a blank. What is his future? He has every opportunity he could have as a high schooler, but… what next? Dollen doesn’t know. All he knows is this is what his parents always encouraged him to do: get high grades, get into a good university, and study a “good” major.

Meanwhile, Neo, the spunky demon from The City, has taken up a bet with his friend. He was going to make a human sell their soul to him; his pride was on the line. By chance, the two met, and the rest was history.

Neo the demon

Neo is a young demon from "The City," an underworld for demons and staff. He bets his peer on how quickly he can capture a human soul, despite the elders prohibiting it. Sneaking into the human world, he targets a high school, expecting an easy win. But when he meets Dollen, the bet shifts from "how fast he can capture a soul" to him questioning, "How long will the deal last?"

Dollen

Dollen is a typical overachiever—A’s in every subject, perfect records, valedictorian. His design is inspired by the motif of the "Setting and Rising Sun." At first, Dollen is uncertain and afraid, represented by the "Setting Sun" with darker tones, closer to night. As the story progresses, he faces his fears and grows, symbolized by the "Rising Sun." The sun sets and rises, just like how we may feel lost at times, but eventually, a new day begins.

Supporting Casts

The supporting cast of I Sold My Soul for This, which includes:

Dollen's mom, a kind English teacher at a local middle school, and Dollen's dad, a house-husband. They are based on the idea of being a cloud that always supports the Sun (Dollen), but sometimes their support can overshadow what the sun actually needs.

The old demon and the old lady, who will be mentors to Neo and Dollen. They are both based on birds flying through the sky, passing through the Sun and Star's lives.

Artiste

The story begins when Anne Certayn, a college student unsure of their life goals, must pick a club for extra credits. They plan to join a club that requires minimal effort, but the Art club members have other ideas. Throughout the year, Anne and the others learn to let their passions guide them, instead of living up to others' expectations.
